Atsa address integrity) <br />The Maharajah Nouse is architecturally signifrcant as an excepfiona! example of the residenflal use of the Art Modeme <br />variant of the Madame style, one of the best in Orange County. It is htstoricalty significant for its association with the <br />Maharajah of lndore, the hereditary ruler of a central Indian slate and reputedly one of the richest men in the world of time. <br />Designed by architect Donald Beach Kirby of Balboa, the house was built in ?938-7939 by prominent Santa Ana contractor <br />Allison Nonerfor $40,000 according to the building permit, although the local press reported the cost of construction as <br />$50,000 and of the furnishings as $750,000. <br />(See Continuation Sheet 3 of 4.) <br />619.
