REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />SEPTEMBER 16, 2013 <br />TITLE: <br />CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH <br />GOLDEN BELL PRODUCTS INC. <br />FOR TREATING SANITARY SEWER <br />MANHOLES (SPEC. Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Renew the contract to Golden Bell Products, Inc. for treatment of sanitary sewer manholes with <br />insecticidal latex coating in an amount not to exceed $50,000, subject to non-substantive changes <br />approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />The Public Works Water Resources Division maintains a sanitary sewer system consisting of 390 <br />miles of pipelines and 8,000 manholes. Insect infestation is controlled by applying insecticide in <br />sewer manholes. The use of insecticidal latex coating provides a cost effective manhole treatment <br />that remains effective for several years after application. Due to the specialized materials and <br />equipment City contracts with a private company for this service. <br />On December 12, 2012, the City Council awarded a contract to Golden Bell Products, Inc. for a one- <br />year period with provisions for three, one-year renewals. The vendor has agreed to renew the <br />contract without an increase in pricing. Staff recommends the first renewal of the contract.
