5. MEDICAL MARIJUANA: UPDATE ON CITY EFFORTS AND STATUS OF <br />INITIATIVE <br />Mr. Trevino provided an overview of the enforcement efforts between the City <br />Attorney's Office, Police Department, Code Enforcement and US Attorney's Office. <br />He also provided a status of the initiative that has qualified for the ballot in November <br />2014. <br />Committee member Benavides spoke on the initiative that will be on the ballot for <br />residents to decide and how the city's response might be. Interim City Manager <br />Kevin O'Rourke noted staff will provide the Council, in light of the City of Riverside's <br />decision, the city's options and what the next steps will be. Mr. Trevino noted the <br />City Attorney may propose that this item be presented to the Council in Closed <br />Session due to the legal issues. <br />Chairman Sarmiento asked that staff also provide the number of dispensaries that <br />were once open and operating and what the present count is. <br />7.
