29 <br />Section 2 - Policy <br />1.1 Student Services Referrals <br />Policy: Students who are facing challenges in their non-academic life that are providing barriers to their <br />academic success may be referred to the Student Services Coordinator. When they meet with the <br />Student Services Coordinator, she will work with the students to provide support during times of crisis. <br />The Student Services Coordinator who will provide direct support or can refer them to one of our many <br />community partners who can help them with different social services including food, housing, mental <br />health, substance abuse, family planning, domestic abuse, clothing, housing and transportation. <br />Procedure: <br />• Instructors that notice that a student is facing personal challenges that are affecting their experience <br />at school will notify the Program Director. <br />• Upon notice, the Program Director will contact the student to recommend Student Services sessions. <br />• If the student accepts the recommendation, the Student Services Coordinator will contact the student <br />to schedule a session where they will work together to come up with proactive actions to help with <br />issues that seems to be challenging the student. <br />• Advising sessions will continue until the student feels they have received the necessary support. <br />• Advising sessions are documented electronically by the advisor in Edline. <br />Career Closet + Student Relief Fund <br />• If during a Student Services session it is clear that the student is in need of attire or emergency <br />funds, they may apply for either the Career Closet or the Student Relief Fund. <br />• Student must fill out an application for each service. <br />• Application will be reviewed by the CEO for approval. <br />• Upon approval they will receive approved services/funds. <br />1.1.1 Academic Advising <br />Policy: Students that are facing challenges to cope with the academic progress of their programs of study may <br />be referred by their instructor for or may directly request academic advising sessions. Academic advising <br />sessions aim at assisting students overcome academic challenges by assessing their learning skills and <br />proposing effective study techniques. <br />Procedure: <br />• Instructors that notice that a student has failed 3 consecutive tests or whose work is below the average of <br />the class must immediately notify this to the Director of Education. <br />• Upon notice, the Director of Education will contact the student to recommend academic advising sessions <br />as a preventive measure to avoid the possibility of an academic probation. <br />If the student accepts the recommendation, the Director of Education will appoint an academic advisor for <br />the student. <br />• The advisor will contact the student to schedule a minimum of 3 one-hour advising sessions where they <br />will work together in the review of the content that seems to be challenging the student. <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
