Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve a side letter agreement to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Service <br />Employees International Union regarding wages and other terms and conditions of employment. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) recently completed contract <br />negotiations resulting in a new, two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) (Attachment <br />1). The MOU covers the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015. This agreement will modify <br />the existing MOU (Attachment 2) and will be part of a comprehensive MOU to be brought <br />forward at a later date. <br />The provisions of this agreement include: <br />1) Term: A two-year term from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015. <br />2) Salary Increase: Effective July 1, 2013, the base salary of employees covered by this MOU <br />shall be increased by one percent (1 %). <br />3) CALPERS Retirement: Effective April 1, 2013, employee contribution toward the cost 2.7% <br />at 55 service retirement benefit will be reduced from 13% to 9%. <br />4) Medical Insurance: For the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015, the City shall <br />continue to make health insurance contributions at the rates in effect for 2013 or at the rate <br />of the lowest cost HMO medical plan for the Other Southern California Region plan, <br />whichever amount is greater. <br />25B-1
