H. REDEVELOPMENT COMPONENT <br />A. BACKGROUND <br />Redevelopment in Santa Ana began with the adoption of the Central City Redevelopment <br />Project Area in 1973. Revitalization objectives included creating convenient parking, <br />rehabilitating and retrofitting historic structures, and providing infill development that would <br />support a mix of office, retail and residential uses. In the past 20 years, the Agency has <br />facilitated the development of six public parking structures, the Fiesta Marketplace, Main Place <br />Mall, new commercial office buildings and 600 senior units and assistance for development of <br />other housing projects. Among other cultural <br />activities, the Agency assisted in the acquisition of a site for the new home of the St. Joseph <br />Ballet, a non - profit organization designed to help under privileged youth. <br />Redevelopment has contributed substantially to improving the infrastructure within the Merged <br />Project Area.
