At the request of the City Council Committee on Main Street Development, Public Works Agency staff researched and reviewed the feasibility of installing overhead archway signs on South Main Street between First Street and Warner Avenue. Staff identified two preferred locations: one at Walnut Street and the second at Broadway Place. The two proposed signs will span across Main Street with a ground clearance of 18 -feet from the roadway centerline. These signs will be a replica of the old historic sign that once stood across Main Street (see Exhibits 1 and 2). The Committee requested that construction of the sign at Broadway Place begin by mid 2006. In order to meet the construction deadline, staff requested a proposal from Graphic Solutions, which has over 35 years of experience in these specialized archway sign throughout California. Graphic Solutions is a full service design firm and will provide these services in a timely manner to meet the project schedule. Staff recommends selection of Graphic Solutions for Main Street archway sign design and construction administration services. The proposal demonstrated that the firm has vast experience in the required fields and a good understanding of the project objectives. 4 -1
