REQUEST FOR <br />AGENCY ACTION <br />AGENCY BOARD MEETING DATE: <br />NOVEMBER 17, 2008 <br />TITLE: <br />FIRST AMENDMENT TO COOPERATIVE <br />AGREEMENT FOR BUILDING REPAIRS <br />AND PEST CONTROL SERVICES AT <br />GRAND CENTRAL ARTS CENTER <br />���..`�... %L <br />EXEC3 E DIRECTOR <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />AGENCY SECRETARY USE ONLY: <br />inatroN; Aiixzve�, <br />,Zwd ; /Yd2r*NPZ <br />APPROVED <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the Executive Director and Agency Secretary to execute the <br />attached first amendment to the Cooperative Agreement with the City of <br />Santa Ana in the amount of $299,700, for a total amount of $334,700, <br />subject to non - substantive changes approved by the Executive Director and <br />Agency General Counsel. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The 1924 Grand Central Arts Center building, home of California State <br />University, Fullerton Graduate Arts Program, was completely remodeled and <br />opened in 1999. There are 27 studio apartments, three art galleries, a <br />live performance theater, classroom space and the Gypsy Den Restaurant. <br />The building, which is located on the southeast corner of Broadway and <br />Second Street, is in need of building repairs to continue to preserve the <br />integrity of this historic building. <br />On August 18, 2008, City Council approved a Cooperative Agreement for <br />emergency building repairs and termite treatment at Grand Central Arts <br />Center in the amount of $35,000. The building has experienced leaking on <br />the roof deck to the apartments as well as in the light wells to the <br />basement. In addition, the flooring of the first floor is cracked and in <br />disrepair creating a potentially unsafe condition. This project provides <br />for replacement of the roof deck, repair of the waterproofing around the <br />light wells and replacement of the flooring on the first floor of the <br />building.
