NO. 11 -060) <br />CITY M <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Renew the contract with Ben's Asphalt Inc. for asphalt street maintenance for a two year period <br />in an amount not to exceed $630,000 annually, subject to non - substantive changes approved by <br />the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Maintenance Street Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 400 <br />miles of streets within the City of Santa Ana. In order to do so, asphalt street maintenance and <br />repairs are required. <br />Services provided under the asphalt street maintenance contract include excavation and cold <br />milling of existing roadways, construction of asphalt concrete pavement, crack sealing and <br />portland cement concrete repairs. In addition, the contract provides for water and sewer system <br />maintenance, including trench repair, and adjustment of water valve boxes, manhole frames and <br />covers to grade. <br />On December 19, 2011, the City Council awarded a contract to Ben's Asphalt, Inc. The vendor <br />has agreed to renew the contract; however, has requested an average of ten percent increase <br />due to higher asphalt and operation costs. Staff recommends approval of the recommended <br />action. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the Public Works Agency Roadway Maintenance, Water System <br />Maintenance and Sanitary Sewer Service accounts (nos. 02917660 - 62300, 06017641 -62300 and <br />05617640-62300). <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNT: <br />Edwin "William" Galvez, P.E.
