REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />DECEMBER 2, 2013 <br />TITLE: <br />APPOINT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE <br />ORANGE COUNTY VECTOR CONTROL <br />CITY MANAGE <br />1:7X��7i�ihGl= 1�1�7��7_ «�C�7�1 <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />r_1: 061T ACID, <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on I" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Appoint a representative to the Orange County Vector Control for a two year term expiring <br />December 31, 2015. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City's current representative is Cecilia Aguinaga who has served in this capacity since <br />November, 2010 and has expressed interest in continuing to represent the City. <br />The Vector Control meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 3:00 p.m. at their Garden Grove <br />headquarters; representatives receive $100 a month stipend. <br />Staff posted the vacancy, pursuant to Maddy Act requirements and has not received any <br />applications from interested residents for said position. <br />The Orange County Vector Control District (OCVCD) is one of over 100 agencies statewide <br />specifically dedicated to protecting public health by controlling rats, flies, mosquitoes, and other <br />vector related problems. The District was formed in 1947 in accordance with local authority <br />provided by the Mosquito Abatement Act of 1915 and further supported by the California Health <br />and Safety Codes. Operation of the District is overseen by a Board of Trustees comprised of 35 <br />members, each appointed by their city of residence (34) with one member representing the <br />County. Trustees are appointed for terms of two and need not be elected officials. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. <br />Maria D.
