REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />DECEMBER 16, 2013 <br />TITLE: <br />APPOINTMENTS TO THE SANTA ANA <br />WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD <br />CITY MANAGE <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />I_\W W 7N9:I�. <br />❑ <br />As Recommended <br />❑ <br />As Amended <br />❑ <br />Ordinance on 1s` Reading <br />❑ <br />Ordinance on 2 n Reading <br />❑ <br />Implementing Resolution <br />❑ <br />Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Appoint Caleb Everett from Career College of California, William McGowan from Ingram Micro, <br />and Darren Rutledge from Guaranty Chevrolet to the Workforce Investment Board. <br />WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION <br />At a special meeting of November 21, 2013, by a vote of 19:0 (Carter, de Leon, Didion, Elliott, <br />Knitter, Maldonado, Martinez, Sanchez, and Su absent), the Workforce Investment Board <br />recommended that the City Council appoint Caleb Everett, Career College of California, William <br />McGowan, Ingram Micro, and Darren Rutledge, Guaranty Chevrolet as representatives on the <br />Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On March 6, 2000, the Santa Ana City Council adopted a resolution establishing the Santa Ana <br />Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and appointed 35 members. In accordance with the federal <br />legislation, a majority of the Board members and the Board Chair must come from the private <br />sector. The remaining Board members represent education, non - profit organizations, one -stop <br />mandated partners and local labor organizations. <br />There are five private sector positions currently vacant on the WIB Board. After an extensive <br />recruitment campaign and interview process, staff is recommending the appointment of Caleb <br />Everett (replacing O. Pina) from Career College of California, William McGowan (replacing T. <br />Saldivar) from Ingram Micro and Darren Rutledge (replacing E. Figueroa) from Guaranty <br />Chevrolet. All three have expressed an interest and have confirmed that they can make the time <br />commitments necessary to serve on the board. The candidates being considered would represent <br />the private sector vacancies currently on the WIB. <br />13A -1 <br />
