III. Proposed Commission duties and Commissioner composition are <br />described below and will be part of the proposed Ordinance at the <br />December 2 Council meeting <br />IV. The concept of a new City Commission on Arts and Culture was first <br />discussed at the October 28 Parks, Recreation, Education, and Youth <br />(PREY) Council Committee meeting. The PREY Committee expressed <br />their support and desire to see the proposed new Commission come <br />before the entire City Council. <br />V. Staff has been conducting outreach to individuals and groups from the <br />arts and culture community to get their feedback on the proposed new <br />Commission and will continue to do so. Please let us know whom you <br />would like to recommend for staff to follow up and meet to get their <br />perspective on this proposed new Commission. <br />Commission Duties <br />• Champion the development, promotion and sustainability of Santa <br />Ana's vibrant arts and cultural community <br />• Will advise the City Council on priorities and identify resources to <br />support artists and cultural institutions <br />• Will promote cultural programs and events <br />• Will advocate for and educate the public on the value of the arts <br />• Will foster public and private partnerships to sustain these efforts <br />• Develop a Sister Cities Program <br />Commissioners <br />• Residents of Santa Ana and citizen volunteers, appointed by the Mayor <br />and City Council <br />• The commission will include representatives from the art, cultural, <br />business and education communities and the general public <br />• Will advise the City Council on priorities and identify resources to <br />support artists and cultural institutions <br />• Will promote cultural programs and events <br />• Will advocate for and educate the public on the value of the arts <br />• Will foster public and private partnerships to sustain these efforts <br />• All Volunteer Commission — No compensation <br />Outreach to Art and Culture Community <br />• Arts Orange County — Richard Stein <br />• Workshop for Community Arts — Alicia Rojas, Adriana Alexander, <br />Moises Camacho, Chilo Perez, Elizabeth Cardenas Sevilla, and Lara <br />Montagne <br />• United Artist of Santa Ana — Sandra "Pocha" Sarmiento, Victor Payan, <br />and Mathew Southgate <br />• Don Crib, President of Santa Ana Council of Arts and Culture <br />• Mike McGee, Professor, Department of Visual Arts, CSUF <br />• Silvia Volcan, Misfit #9 Gallery/Art Forum, and Artist <br />Next Steps <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 18 NOVEMBER 18, 2013 <br />
