90B CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Thanked staff and Acting Public Works Director for presentation on Bristol <br />Street Widening Project; <br />• Encouraged residents to participate in reviewing and commenting on <br />upcoming Plans, i.e. Circulation Element, General Plan etc.; and <br />• Held special Legislative Committee meeting in Washington D.C. to discuss <br />state and federal platforms and grant opportunities. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento: <br />• Thanked residents for attending and commenting at tonight's meeting; <br />• Provided report of special Legislative Meeting held in Washington D.C. - <br />advocated for additional funds for UASIS, discussed jail and health care <br />issues; <br />• January 21St will host ribbon cutting for Madison Park Joint Use Community <br />Garden; health and wellness is a commitment of the City; thanked staff for <br />efforts to bring project to fruition and invited all to attend celebration; and <br />• Wished all a Happy New Year - bright year for the City. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Tinajero: <br />• Happy New Year to all; and <br />• On January 20th Orange County Fire Authority will hold "Cause for Alarm" <br />event that will provide free smoke alarms at Fire Station 75; fire prevention <br />important. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Wished all a happy new year; <br />• Thanked colleagues for supporting nomination of Bruce Bauer to Planning <br />Commission; and <br />• Fire Division Chief Scott Brown provided brief update on Santiago Creek <br />Hazard Reduction Project — removal of hazardous vegetation on City owned <br />property will take place at the end of January/beginning of February; fire staff <br />will meet with all affected property owners. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Commented on change of Council Meeting day; regular meetings will be 1st <br />and 3'd Tuesdays of the month; <br />• Noted that Jerome Recreational Center has over 40 sport teams; look <br />forward to expanding programs; <br />• Commented on Suavecito's success — support our youth and their <br />entrepreneurial dreams; and <br />• Encouraged all to shop in Santa Ana this Valentine's Day. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Support Santa Ana businesses and cultural events. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 18 JANUARY 7, 2014 <br />1 0A -18 <br />
