• Lou Correa, State Senator, proud resident of Santa Ana and believe City is safest <br />compared to others of similar size; brutal and senseless death of Kim Pham over the <br />weekend; many witnesses to altercation; public plead to come forward with evidence <br />or witness accounts; bothered that lack of assistance to stop beating; commitment to <br />share cost of security cameras; dedicated officers in area; police presence <br />important; together find resources to improve safety. <br />• Manuel Pena, opined that increased restaurants and entertainment businesses in <br />the Downtown will increase crime. <br />• Zuleyma Valera, member of SACReD, praying for family of Kim Pham; commented <br />that many residents afraid of being involved if illegal residents because of <br />deportation /arrest concern; send police officers and positively engage <br />neighborhoods to earn their trust; discourage decriminalization of youth; library too <br />far; unregulated housing; schools that don't prepare youth for leadership roles; <br />building relationships is most important to include in strategic plan. <br />• Apolonio Cortez, commented on public forums on strategic plan, equal growth, <br />incentivize small businesses and economic development. <br />• Adrian Munoz, member of SACReD and volunteer with Centro Cultural de Mexico, <br />seek support in educating community on where to obtain assistance; important to <br />showcase talents. <br />• Manuela Lopez, member of SACReD and Healthy Communities, have participated in <br />strategic plan forums; cultural expression important; Plan should include 1. Value <br />traditions of immigrants 2. Education, art and culture expression. <br />• Alondra Campos, spoke of proposed Strategic Plan and values that should be <br />included in Plan - health, healthy and fresh foods, safety, and acceptance of <br />residents regardless of immigration status, quality housing. <br />• Miriam Lopez, voice of youth should be included in Strategic Plan, opportunity to <br />grow in community — participate in city government, leadership skills, <br />decriminalization of youth. <br />• Carlos Melendez, commented on Strategic Plan and need for housing that is <br />dignified and better transportation alternatives such as bicycle lanes. <br />• Juan Carlos Macedo, has attended several forums on Strategic Plan; priorities <br />should be transportation and accessible housing; want to know status of jail. <br />• Madeline Spencer, happy new year to all, member of SACReD, coalition has been <br />working with staff and City Council to develop Strategic Plan, key issues have been <br />raised by various members of the community; values need to be included in plan; <br />include "Inclusions "; discussed the 7 values as proposed by SACReD; outreach and <br />communication; engage residents of all backgrounds; reduce barriers and increase <br />dialogue. Ideas of communities important to be incorporated <br />• Matthew Southgate, commented on destruction of mural at Santora Building; lack of <br />cameras when previous murder occurred several months ago; artist village parking <br />garage has no cameras in place urged Council policy <br />• Jeffrey Hall, owner of C4 Deli and Chapter One, proud of City's progress to date, <br />spoke on behalf of his businesses and condemn incident over the weekend; focus <br />on bringing justice and prevent future incidents; the Downtown Association <br />Restaurant Association will be discussing at upcoming meeting. <br />• Frances Cadenas, spoke on behalf of Orange County Board of Supervisor Janet <br />Nguyen, read statement on incident over the weekend; encouraged witnesses to <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 6 JANUARY 21, 2014 <br />1 0A -6 <br />
