Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Cal <br />Humanities in the amount of $7,500, subject to non - substantive changes approved by the <br />City Manager and City Attorney. <br />2. Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing grant revenue in the amount of $7,500 in <br />the Library Services Grant revenue account (no. 15011002 52040) and appropriating <br />funds to the Library Services Grant expenditure accounts (no. 15011160 various). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The California Reads public library grant is a competitive grant conducted in partnership by the <br />California Council for the Humanities and the California Center for the Book. Both organizations <br />are non - profit entities. <br />The Santa Ana Public Library has been awarded the California Reads $7,500 grant from Cal <br />Humanities to support the project, "War Comes Home: Finding Peace At The Homefront ". The <br />grant is awarded to libraries that develop and conduct public programs that will involve a broad <br />range of community members in reading, discussion and related activities regarding the role of <br />veterans in our society. <br />The Santa Ana Public Library aims to: strengthen connections between veterans and non - <br />veterans; and increase awareness and understanding of the impact of war on men, women, and <br />children. During the period January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014, the library plans to engage in <br />multigenerational and multicultural programs covering the areas of veteran education, integration, <br />and appreciation. Programming will include Santa Ana veteran's oral history conducted by the <br />library Teen Oral Historians, book presentation by Karl Marlantes author of "What It Is Like To Go <br />To War", film presentation, photographs and memorabilia exhibit, and creation of a dedicated <br />space within the library as a resource center for veterans and their families. <br />20A -1 <br />
