Irrigated land use is determined by FMMP staff by analyzing <br />0 FMMP Survey Area <br />current aerial photos, local comment letters, and related GIS data, supplemented with held <br />verthcation. <br />0 Prime Farmland & FMMP <br />—AND — <br />0 Ordering Products <br />0 Staff <br />0 She Index <br />o FMMPHOME <br />The soll must meet the physical and chemical cmena for Prime Farmland or Farmland of <br />Statewide Importance as determined by the USDA Nature[ Resources Conservation Service <br />(NRCS). NRCS compiles lists of which soils in each survey area meet the quality criteria. <br />Factors considered in qualification of a soil by NRCS include_ <br />• Water moisture regimes, available water capacity, and developed lrigatlon water supply <br />• Soli temperature range <br />• Acid - alkali balance <br />• Watertable <br />• Soil sodium content <br />• Flooding (uncontrolled runoff from natural precipitation) <br />• Erodlbility <br />• Permeability rate <br />• Rock fragment content <br />• Soil rooting depth <br />For more detail about the soil criteria and mapping caleggnes, please read this excerpt from <br />the FMMP Guidelines. <br />The Pnme/Stalewide lists for each county are available on the FMMP web site in PDF format <br />Any questions specific to soil qualifications for Prime Fernand or Farmland of Statewide <br />Importance lists should be directetl to your local NRCS office.
