maximum regular and longevity vacation that an employee with less than six (6) <br />years' service could carry over is 240 hours and only an employee with more <br />than 20 years of service could carry over 320 hours and take the authorized <br />maximuun of 400 hours in any one year. Notwithstanding the foregoing, an <br />employee may request approval to carry over vacation in excess of the maximum <br />set forth herein. Such a waiver requires the approval of the Police Chief, the <br />Executive Director of Personnel and the City Manager, <br />C. For the period ending December 31, 2015, an employee's maximum longevity <br />vacation accrual carry over shall be increased to a combination of accruals from <br />the previous two calendar years (up to 160 hours). Therefore, through December <br />31, 2015, an employee may carry over both regular vacation accruals and <br />longevity vacation accruals from the previous two (2) calendar years.Vacation <br />not taken beyond that amount shall be forfeited. <br />D. Effective January 1, 2016, the maximum yearly vacation carryover shall revert <br />back to that as set forth in subsection `B ", above, and any accumulated vacation <br />in excess of that maximum allowable carry over not used prior to January 1, 2017, <br />shall be forfeited. <br />E. Notwithstanding the foregoing, for any affected employee who is in jeopardy of <br />losing vacation because of department staffing needs, may with approval of the <br />Police Chief, Executive Director of Personnel and City Manager, receive a 30 -day <br />extension beyond the normal cutoff date so that such employee will not lose <br />vacation time <br />10.5 Excess Usage. If vacation time off is used in excess of that available, such excess <br />vacation time off will be, first, deducted from any available compensatory time off <br />accrual; finally, deducted from the next scheduled wage or salary payment. <br />10.6 Time Off Banks. Employee Time Off Banks exist for each employee in the unit. Time <br />off will be computed on an annual basis. Separate banks will be maintained for vacation, <br />holidays, and compensatory time, respectively, based on existing policies applicable to <br />each. Time off from each bank may be taken in increments as small as one half (1/2) <br />hour, with fractional usage rounded upward to the next higher multiple of one half (t /2) <br />hour. <br />Each affected employee shall be afforded the opportunity to submit time off selection(s) <br />and the Police Chief or his designee shall make every reasonable effort to accommodate <br />the employee's preference(s). The time at which an employee shall take his or her leave <br />time shall be determined by the Police Chief, with due regard for the wishes of the <br />employee and particular regard for the needs of the service. <br />OF <br />25B -44 <br />
