Freeze/Thaw Effect of Har-Tru Courts <br />Frost occurs in the Har-Tru clay court surface profile when water iDthe <br />surface freezes. Depending on the extent [fthe freezing Vve80l8r, frost <br />may extend through the entire 1" thickness 8f HGr'Tro, When sunlight and <br />higher temperature reach the frozen surface the following rVOrDi0g` [U8Re <br />ice crystals will begin (0 melt from the top nf the surface downward through <br />the profile. <br />[t may take several hours for all ice crystals iV melt irithe profile. While <br />these ice crystals are melting, water will form on top 0f the Surface. and form <br />puddles until the entire SUrfGCgbelow begins t8thaw. Once the profile has <br />thawed completely the water will drain through the profile. <br />Onb\ the entire profile. has thawed and the water has drained back down <br />into the profile, the surface may h8 too wet for maintenance practice 3and <br />for tennis play.
