Also address integrity) <br />The MacKay House is architecturally significant as a representative example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The house <br />retains its Spanish character despite the sizeable addition made in 2002 because of the setback and design of the new second <br />floor, including its proportions, materials, massing, and detailing. City of Santa Ana records indicate that the house and garage, <br />valued at $5,000, were originally constructed in March 1930 by Roy Russell, one of the primary developers of the Floral Park <br />neighborhood. Curiously enough, a building permit for a swimming pool, valued at $350, was issued prior to that for the house, in <br />1929. When the address first appears in city directories in 1931, Kenneth MacKay, the district manager of the Union Central Life <br />Insurance Company, and his wife Clarice were the listed residents. From 1932 through 1935, Howard L. Stone, a foreman for the <br />Telephone Company, and his wife Marquita occupied the house.
