ARTICLE X <br />10.0 VACATION <br />10.1 Purpose. It is the policy of the City to grant employees vacation leave in order to provide <br />them with a break in their regular work schedule, and this purpose will be used as a guide <br />in the administration of the provisions of this Article. <br />10.2 Regular Vacation Period. <br />A. Full time employees shall be granted regular vacation at the rate of 80 hours for <br />each of his or her first and second completed year of service, accrued on a <br />monthly basis at the rate of 6 2/3 hours for each completed month of service. <br />Thereafter, all such employees shall be granted regular vacation at the rate of 120 <br />hours for each completed year of service, accrued at the rate of 10 hours for each <br />completed month of service. <br />B. An employee who has completed less than one year's service during the calendar <br />year shall receive a proportionate fraction in accordance with the amount of <br />service to his or her credit during the year; provided, however, no employee shall <br />be entitled to, or receive payment for, any vacation until he or she has completed <br />six (6) months of continuous service. <br />C. On or after the first (1st) day of the month following completion of six (6) months <br />of continuous full -time service, an employee may be allowed to take all or a. <br />proportionate fraction of his or her earned vacation, subject to scheduling <br />approval of the employee's supervisor. <br />D. Absence on sick leave for a period in excess of fifteen (15) consecutive calendar <br />days shall not be considered as service for vacation accrual purposes. <br />E. Computation of Regular Vacation. <br />1. In computing regular vacation, each municipal holiday that occurs during <br />the vacation, and that falls on a day which the employee would have <br />worked had he or she not been on vacation, shall be deducted from the <br />computation so that ten (10) additional hours of regular vacation shall be <br />allowed to the employee unless departmental practice provides some other <br />manner of compensating for municipal holidays. Should an employee be <br />confined to a hospital for sickness or injury while on authorized vacation, <br />each full day of such confinement, when confirmed by a physician's <br />statement and approval of the Police Chief, may be deducted from the <br />computation of vacation expended and charged against the employee's <br />accumulated sick leave. <br />39 <br />
