REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MEETING DATE June 3, 1996 <br />TITLE CONTRACT FOR SANTA ANA <br />FACILITY BED SPACES BY THE <br />UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION <br />SERVICES <br />MANAGER <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL USE ONLY <br />Approved <br />As Recommended <br />As Amended (see Minutes) <br />Ord inance on 1st Reading <br />Ord inance on 2nd Reading <br />Implementing Resolution <br />Set Public Hearing For <br />Continued to: <br />FILENUMBER(S): -9 <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the Mayor and the <br />Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement between the United <br />States Department of Justice, Immigration Services and the Santa <br />Ana Police Department /Santa Ana Detention Facility to provide up to <br />ten jail bed spaces per day to the Immigration Services at a cost <br />of $80 per space. <br />The 95 bed Santa Ana Detention Facility has been in operation since <br />December of 1993. The average weekday population of the facility <br />is 65 detainees. This agreement would allow the Detention Facility <br />to provide up to ten bed spaces per day to the United States <br />Immigration Services. These spaces would be provided on an <br />availability basis and at a per diem rate of $80.00. This <br />agreement would continue to operate, and will be significantly <br />expanded, at the new Detention Facility, with a rate adjustment <br />based on actual operating cost for that facility. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds generated by the space <br />1996/1997 budget in the Police <br />11 -01- 5830), and no additional <br />Paul M.
