REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 17, 2014 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT WITH CESAR VARGAS AND <br />ASSOCIATES FOR TRANSLATION <br />SERVICES <br />CITY MANAGE <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on I' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Cesar Vargas <br />and Associates for a three -year period in the total amount not to exceed $90,000 subject to non - <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Since 2005, the City has had an agreement with Cesar Vargas and Associates for interpretation <br />and translation services at City Council meetings and other official meetings. The consultant has <br />agreed to renew their agreement at the current rate for the next three years. The rate is very <br />competitive and will allow for continuity. The agreement will also allow for a one -time expense of <br />$11,400 to translate the Five -Year Strategic Plan into Spanish and Vietnamese; the translation of <br />said document will be completed within two weeks. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN <br />Approval of this agreement allows us to meet Goal #5. Community Health, Livability, Engagement <br />& Sustainability, Priority #1, Establish a comprehensive community engagement initiative to <br />expand access to information and create opportunities for stakeholders to play an active role in <br />discussing public policy and setting priorities. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are available in the Clerk of the Council Office fund (account no. 01107031 - 62300). <br />vVV � <br />Maria D.
