REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 17, 2014 <br />TITLE: <br />FEDERAL WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT <br />TITLE I SUB -GRANT AGREEMENT FOR <br />PROGRAM YEAR 2014 -2015 <br />CITY MANAG R <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />W:1 :1:14110:401 <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute all necessary documents <br />to receive funds for the Federal Workforce Investment Act sub -grant with the State of California <br />Workforce Investment Division in the amount of $1,145,832. <br />The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 provides funds to Local Workforce Investment Areas <br />(LWIA) to operate job- training programs for adults, dislocated workers and youth who meet <br />specific criteria as outlined in the Act. The City of Santa Ana was designated as a LWIA and <br />administrative entity on January 28, 2000, by the State Workforce Investment Board. Santa Ana <br />has received WIA funds to operate job- training programs since July 1, 2000. <br />A new sub -grant agreement is required at the beginning of each program year in order to receive <br />WIA funds as allocated by the State of California. Upon document execution and submission to <br />the State Workforce Investment Division, the City's allocation is $1,145,832 in Youth Formula <br />funds, $1,123,528 in Adult and $717,405 in Dislocated Worker funds for a total WIA PY 2014 -15 <br />grant allocation of $2,986,765. No further action will be required by the City to receive these final <br />allocations. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds have been appropriated in the FY 2014 -2015 budget and are available in the Workforce <br />Investment Act Fund (account no. 123 - various). <br />55B -1 <br />
