Final action on <br />the bill by Congress will likely be pushed to the lame duck session. <br />• Grant Assistance: HK has monitored funding opportunities at the federal level for the <br />City and continues to provide a weekly grants newsletter that highlights opportunities of <br />relevance to local government. HK has also assisted with grant applications, including: <br />o TIGER: Assisting with obtaining letters of support from Senators Feinstein and <br />Boxer as well as Congresswoman Sanchez <br />o Byrne Justice Innovation Grant: Reviewed application; assisting with letters of <br />support from Senators Feinstein and Boxer as well as Congresswoman Sanchez <br />o Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS): Arranged meeting with COPS <br />leadership in D.C.; provided feedback on City's proposal <br />o Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH): Provided strategic <br />guidance on funding opportunity <br />• Letters: HK assisted with drafting letters on key city issues, including: <br />Utility Users Tax (UUT)/Protecting Local Revenue: Assisted with drafting <br />a letter from Mayor Pulido articulating the City's position on key policies <br />impacting the city's UUT and its local revenue control. <br />o Gainful Employment: Assisted the City in drafting a letter from Mayor <br />Pulido to the U.S. Department of Education regarding the recently proposed <br />gainful employment rule. <br />11. Ongoing <br />• Biweekly Calls: Host biweekly calls with city staff <br />Washington, D.C. Trip: Organized Washington, D.C. trip for City Manager David <br />Cavazos and Police Chief Carlos Rojas that included meetings with Congresswoman <br />Sanchez, Senator Boxer's office, Senator Feinstein's office, the COPS Office, ICE, and <br />with the U.S. Marshals Office (by phone). Also, met with Mayor Pro Tern Sal Tinajero <br />during the National League of Cities Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. <br />• Communication with Senators and Representatives: Maintain regular contact with Santa <br />Ana's congressional delegation. <br />III.
