to widen the sidewalk, or use that 12 - 14 feet to provide for both parallel parking and a eastbound bike lane. The streetcar is not proposing to alter the parking on the north side of 4th Street so a westbound bike lane would need to be the subject of a future 4th Street project. Maybe this could be part of a near - future workshop with the community and business owners to work through all issues streetcar on 4th Street. Just a thought. However, implementing streetcar on 4th Street opens up the opportunity to incorporate bicycles on 4th Street that would not be possible without streetcar — bicycles and diagonal parking are not compatible. The elimination of diagonal parking along the south side, provides a safer environment and the space to accommodate a bicycle facility. A vote in support of streetcar, with or without bike lanes included, furthers the cause of bicycles on 4th Street.
