• Scholarship Program will be presented on May 6, 2014. $200,000 identified <br />for scholarship program. <br />• Councilmember Reyna agreed to introduce youth to the brand new sport. <br />• Need to breakdown pilot program with city sports first. <br />• Offer opportunity for everyone. <br />• Staff is overloaded; need to identify better ways to identify funding for <br />recreation. <br />• Recreation is for leisure time and fun. Not for education. <br />• It is not the city's role to improve a child to compete in the MBA. <br />• By doing this we limit the amount of youth we serve. Opportunity to <br />play should be given to all youth. <br />Mr. Mouet indicated the scholarship program is based on the financial need of <br />the individual. The program will be discussed on the July 28th PREY meeting. <br />Councilmember Reyna asked at what point the scholarship program got on <br />the Strategic Plan. <br />Robert Cortez indicated the Scholarship Program was discussed at the <br />February 18, 2014 City Council meeting. <br />• UPDATE ON CITY PRODUCED EVENTS <br />• Mr. Gerardo presented a handout on the following city events. <br />• Plaza Primavera — Sat March 22nd (700 attendance) <br />• Dia del Nino — (Children's Day April 26th (1,500 attendance) <br />• Cinco de Mayo - first time city will be presenting the event. Anticipate <br />150,000 attendances. Anticipate $250,000 in revenue and $130,000 in <br />expenditures resulting in $120,000 profit. <br />• July 4th event at Centennial Park — Anticipate 6,000 attendance: <br />• Shakespeare in Birch Park (A Midsummer Night's Dream) — July 31st at <br />7:00 pm. <br />• Plaza Bienestar — Sept 6th (Anticipate 1,500 attendance) <br />• Fiestas Patrias Festival & Parade —Sept 12,13 &14 (Anticipate 250,000 <br />attendance <br />• SOMOS — October 5th (Sunday on Main Street) <br />• Founders Plaza Event— Sat October 25th (Anticipate 700 attendence) <br />• Plaza Navidena - Sat Dec 13 (Anticipate 700 attendance) <br />• Council member Reyna indicated the signage was sad on the TET Festival <br />Parade.
