IMLS National Leadership Grant <br />November 18, 2014 <br />Page 2 <br />The program will offer participating libraries meaningful programs and enrichment activities that <br />provide new immigrant communities a voice in the development of library collections and events <br />and create opportunities for civic engagement for both teen historians and their communities. <br />Moreover, the techniques offer participants new access to digital literacy and provide learning in <br />Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) through digital training in new media and <br />digitization technologies; <br />The bulk of grant funds will pay the salaries of the Teen Historians, the ten peer mentors who will <br />train and guide them, as well as the clerical and operational staff required to support grant <br />activities. All will be recruited from the youth of the community. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #2 Youth, Education, Recreation, Objective #2, <br />Expand youth programming, Strategy a, Focus resources on quality youth engagement, civic <br />awareness, enrichment and educational programs (i.e. youth camping trips) and expand after - <br />school programs during out -of- school hours at the library and community centers. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The appropriation adjustment will recognize grant revenue in the amount of $495,550 in the IMLS <br />Library Federal Grants Revenue account (no. 15311002 52000) and appropriate an equal <br />amount to the IMLS Library Federal Grants expenditure accounts (no. 15311160 various). <br />Gerardo Mouet, <br />Executive Directo <br />Parks, Recreation and Community <br />Services Agency <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br />Francisco Gutierrez, <br />Executive Director <br />Finance and Management Services Agency, <br />20B -2 <br />
