Environmental Analysis <br />HYDROLOGY AND WATER QUALITY <br />Existing Conditions <br />Regional Drainage <br />The project area is in the Santa Ana River Watershed (see Figure 5.7 -1, Santa Ana River Watershen). The Santa <br />Ana River Watershed includes much of Orange County, much of western Riverside County, part of <br />southwestern San Bernardino County, and a small portion of Los Angeles County. The watershed is bounded <br />by the Santa Margarita watershed to the south, on the east by the Salton Sea and Southern Mojave <br />watersheds, and on the north /west by the Mojave and San Gabriel watersheds, respectively. The watershed <br />covers approximately 2,800 square miles in area with about 700 miles of rivers and major. The Santa Ana <br />River extends 96 miles from the San Bernardino Mountains in San Bernardino County to the Pacific Ocean at <br />the boundary between the cities of Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. <br />The part of the Santa Ana River Watershed in Orange County is apportioned into several smaller watersheds <br />by OCWatersheds, an agency of the County of Orange Department of Public Works. The project area is in <br />two of the watersheds designated within Orange County: the Anaheim Bay — Huntington Harbor Watershed <br />and the Orange County portion of the Santa Ana River Watershed.' <br />Anaheim Bag — Huntington Ha Lb or Watershed <br />The Anaheim Bay — Huntington Harbor Sub watershed spans much of central and western Orange County. <br />Drainage in the Anaheim Bay — Huntington Harbor Sub watershed is via the East Garden Grove - <br />Wintersburg Channel, Westminster Channel, Anaheim Barber City Cbannel, and Bolsa Chica Channel, <br />southwest to Bolsa Bay /Huntington Harbor, which is contiguous with the Pacific Ocean (see Figure 5.7 -2, <br />Regional Drainage. Bolsa Bay, Huntington Harbor, and Anaheim Bay (in order from southeast to northwest) <br />are all contiguous. The main outlet to the Pacific Ocean is at the west end of Anaheim Bay on the Seal Beach <br />Naval Weapons Station in the City of Seal Beach. An inlet channel connects the southeast end of Bolsa Bay <br />to the ocean. Bolsa Bay is in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve managed by the California Department of <br />Fish and Wildlife (CDF)V. Most of Anaheim Bay is in the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge administered <br />by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Huntington Harbor is a developed, small craft marina with mostly <br />residential and some commercial land uses alongside channels. The outermost part of Anaheim Bay (nearest <br />the ocean is an engineered port used by the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. <br />Santa Ana Raver Watershed, Orange Count? Portion <br />The Santa Ana River Watershed spans most of northeastern Orange County and part of central Orange <br />County (see Figure 5.7 -2, Regional Drainage. Drainage in the Santa Ana River Watershed is southwest via the <br />Santa Ana River to the Pacific Ocean. <br />I The Santa Ana River Watershed designated by OCWatersheds is only pact of the section of the Santa Ana River Watershed in <br />Orange County (see Figure 2, Regional Drainage). <br />Page 5.74 PlaceWorkr <br />
