Hardwood skids shall NOT be used in place of manufactured casing spacers. <br />g. Fill material shall be grout. <br />CASING END SEALS <br />End seals shall be PSI Model C or approved equal and be made of synthetic rubber, conical <br />shape, pull on or wrap- around style with type 304 stainless steel bands. <br />PREPERATION <br />Confirm location of all known existing utilities prior to start of jacking /receiving pit excavation <br />and pipe installation. The contractor shall provide the detailed layout required to keep the <br />bore on grade. Notify the Engineer no less than 7 working days before beginning shaft <br />excavation. Before beginning construction of jacking /receiving pit, adequately protect <br />existing structures, utilities, trees, shrubs, and other existing facilities. Place fencing, gates, <br />lights, and signs, as necessary around shafts and staging areas to provide for public safety. <br />When preparing to install casing pipe, verify casing pipe minimum wall thickness is adequate <br />for anticipated jacking loads. <br />INSTALLATION <br />Jacking and receiving pit construction shall be such as to ensure the safety of the work, <br />contractor's employees, the public, existing utilities, and adjacent property and <br />improvements, whether public or private and shall comply with the State of California <br />requirements and Section 306 of the Standard Specifications and these Technical Provisions. <br />Provide complete groundwater control for excavations at all times. Perform jacking and <br />receiving pit excavations using appropriate excavation or large hole drilling methods, as <br />required. Inspect shaft and pit excavations daily to check the safety of excavation and <br />structural integrity of support system. Open excavations shall conform to all federal, state, <br />and local requirements. Once initiated jacking operations shall continue without interruption, <br />to prevent the pipe from becoming firmly set in the embankment. <br />LUBRICATION OF EXTERIOR OF PIPE AND /OR CASING <br />Bentonite slurry may be used to lubricate exterior of pipe and /or casing during installation. <br />Use of water to facilitate removal of spoil is permitted; however, waterjetting is not allowed. <br />BORING <br />The boring shall be accomplished by means of auguring to the size, line and grade shown on <br />the Contract Documents or as directed by the Engineer. The diameter of the bore shall be <br />minimal to complete the jack and bore operations. Re -drill pilot hole when bore does not <br />meet specifications. <br />T -3m <br />23A -108 <br />
