In
general, steeply pitched hipped roofs are a key feature, both with and without gables, towers, and turrets. Exterior walls may be brick,
stucco, or stone; half- timbered decoration is particularly associated with a "FrenchNornnandy" subtype. Depending on the prototype,
compositions may be either symmetrical or asymmetrical. Typical details include dormers, flared eaves, multi -paned casement
windows and doors ( "French doors "), and both flat - headed and arched openings. Both corners and window and door surrounds may
be quoined. Popular in the 1920s and 1930s, the French Eclectic style in southern California was overshadowed by the Spanish
Colonial, Tudor, and American Colonial revivals.
SUMMARY /CONCLUSION:
The Mansur House qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties under Criterion 1, as a structure with the
distinguishing characteristics of an architectural style or period, the French Eclectic style.
