LAR/1212/14 <br />RESOLUTION NO, 2014 -XXX <br />RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING OCTOBER 26TH OF EACH YEAR, AS THE <br />REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM DAY TO HONOR AND COMMEMORATE THE <br />CONTRIBUTIONS AND SACRIFICES OF ELECTED AND GOVERNMENTAL <br />OFFICIALS FROM THE REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM, AND THOSE COMMUNITY <br />MEMBERS FROM THE REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM AS WELL AS AMERICAN <br />SOLDIERS, VIETNAM WAR VETERANS, ALLIED ARMIES, AND THEIR <br />FAMILIES. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has a diverse population of more <br />than 23,000 Vietnamese Americans including those families and <br />individuals who are Vietnamese refugees from the Republic of <br />Vietnam who fled their country as a result of the Vietnam War; <br />B, WHEREAS, during the Vietnam War the Government of the <br />Republic of Vietnam and its armed forces, people, elected, and <br />governmental officials struggled continuously and bravely to defend <br />and protect the freedom, lives, and property of the people, to <br />safeguard the Republic and the new born democratic government <br />created after the reestablishment of independence from French <br />colonial rule; <br />C. WHEREAS, during the Vietnam War against the invasion of the <br />Vietnamese Communists, the United States and its allied armies <br />from Australia, South Korea, Thailand, New Zealand, and <br />Philippines also made enormous contributions and sacrifices in <br />protecting freedom, democracy, lives, and property of the <br />Vietnamese people and the Republic of Vietnam; <br />D. WHEREAS, the Vietnamese American community with a population <br />of nearly two million, consisting of many industrious and talented <br />members, after four decades of integration has matured with <br />numerous successes in all fields from culture to education, <br />Resolution No, 2014 -XXX <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />55B -3 <br />
