NO. 14 -086) <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO.1, 5} <br />CITY MANAGER <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />:-•:• <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1st Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Proforce Law Enforcement for the purchase of 215 Glock firearms in the <br />amount of $24,500; and an additional $10,000 for an annual blanket order contract for a total <br />amount not to exceed $34,500, subject to non - substantive changes approved by the City <br />Manager and City Attorney. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department issues officers equipment to assist them in their primary <br />responsibility of protecting the community. This equipment includes Glock- manufactured firearms <br />as standard issue side arms. Glock firearms allow for standardization in training and ammunition <br />magazine interchangeability between officers. In the past, firearms have been replaced on an as- <br />needed basis. However, a five -year equipment replacement plan has been developed to ensure <br />compliance with industry standards and meet manufacturer replacement recommendations. This <br />purchase of 215 duty firearms will address the department's immediate need and the 140 <br />remaining replacements will be completed in subsequent years. <br />Additionally, Proforce Law Enforcement provides taser batteries and ammunition magazines for <br />the Police Department. The purchase of the Glock firearms, when combined with anticipated <br />purchases during the current fiscal year, exceeds the $25,000 aggregate limit.
