Councilmember Benavides nominated Michele Martinez, <br />Councilmember Amezcua nominated Sal Tinajero and <br />Councilmember Martinez nominated Vincent Sarmiento. <br />Councilmember Tinajero seconded nomination of Vincent Sarmiento. By <br />acclamation of the full City Council, Councilmember Vincent Sarmiento <br />was elected Mayor Pro Tem. <br />CLOSING REMARKS <br />Councilmember Martinez <br />• Congratulated all on reelection and Vincent Sarmiento on Mayor Pro <br />Tem election; Councilmember Benavides for nomination as Mayor Pro <br />Tem; and voters for electing her for another 4 years; <br />• Thanked family for support; will be going back to school to receive her <br />Master's Degree; look forward to representing City on regional boards; <br />will step down from council committees except for Finance, Economic <br />Development & Technology Committee; <br />• Thanked staff; and <br />• Will be appointing new commissioners and asked residents to apply. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento <br />• Congratulated colleagues on re- election; thanked Sal Tinajero for <br />leadership as Mayer Pro Tem; and <br />• City doing well and look forward to next 4 years. <br />Councilmember Tinajero <br />• Congratulated Vincent Sarmiento on Mayor Pro Tem election; <br />• Important to strategize and lead; <br />• Proud of City Council's effort in solving financial issues; sponsor gay <br />pride parade and Competing measure to better regulate and legalize <br />medical marijuana; <br />• Leadership of Councilmember Reyna key in promoting youth <br />programs; <br />• City has surplus that will be used for infrastructure improvements, <br />community programs and employee salaries; and <br />• Noted that City has best tasting water in United States. <br />Councilmember Amezcua <br />• Congratulated all on re- election and Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento on <br />election; <br />• Thanked Councilmember Martinez for her service on various council <br />committees — balance of Council need to serve on committees; <br />• City financially stable; and <br />• Congratulated Angi Christensen, her secretary, on her retirement at <br />the end of the month. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 4 DECEMBER 9, 2014 <br />10 B -4 <br />
