E. WHEREAS, the Steering Committee for Republic of Vietnam Day <br />Resolution is leading the effort to designate October 26 of each <br />year as Republic of Vietnam Day, the City of Santa Ana recognizes <br />the struggle to defend and protect freedom, democracy, lives and <br />property of the people and the Republic of Vietnam, and the <br />enormous sacrifices and contributions of the army, people, elected <br />and governmental officials and their families during the Vietnam <br />War and therafter; and <br />F. WHEREAS, even in the United States, the sacrifices of more than <br />58,000 American soldiers and the contributions of about three <br />million former servicemen and servicewomen as well as their <br />families during the Vietnam War should continue to be honored, <br />appreciated and recognized. <br />Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana designates the date of <br />October 26th of each year, as the Republic of Vietnam Day to honor and commemorate <br />the contributions and sacrifices of elected and governmental officials from the Republic <br />of Vietnam, and those community members from the Republic of Vietnam as well as <br />American soldiers, Vietnam War veterans, allied armies, and their families. <br />Section 3. If any surcharge or fee, section, subsection, sentence, clause, <br />phrase or word of this Resolution is for any reason held to be invalid by a court of <br />competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining <br />portions of this Resolution. The City Council hereby declares that it would have passed <br />and adopted this Resolution, and each and all provisions hereof, irrespective of the fact <br />that one or more provisions may be declared invalid. <br />Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br />ADOPTED this 2nd day of December, 201 <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br />Sonia R.
