REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JANUARY 20, 2015 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT FOR THE <br />NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES <br />YOUTH PROGRAM AWARD {STRATEGIC <br />PLAN NO. 2,2A) <br />Jn <br />l l' <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1s' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing grant revenue in the amount of $10,000 in the <br />Library Grants revenue account (no. 15311002 52000) and appropriating funds to the Library <br />Grants expenditure account (no. 15311150 63001). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Santa Ana Public Library was chosen as one of ten programs in the United States to receive <br />a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. This program is jointly funded by the <br />President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the <br />National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The <br />Santa Ana Public Library received this award in recognition of the TeenSpace's Circle of <br />Mentoring, a program dedicated to providing teens and young adults from Santa Ana direct <br />mentorship and tutoring, including cultural exposure and enrichment, community and civic <br />engagement, and opportunities for creative expression, from trained library staff members. <br />The TeenSpace program will use the $10,000 to help kick start a pilot program focusing on visual <br />arts through the medium of interactive gaming and e- sports. Funds will be used to purchase <br />high -end gaming equipment to engage youth in our projected 3D and Video game design <br />programs that we are hoping to launch in the upcoming year. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #2 Youth, Education, Recreation, Objective #2, <br />Expand youth programming, Strategy a, Focus resources on quality youth engagement, civic <br />awareness, enrichment and educational programs (i.e. youth camping trips) and expand after - <br />school programs during out -of- school hours at the library and community centers. <br />20A -1 <br />
