REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 17, 2015 <br />TITLE: <br />REAPPOINTMENT OF WORKFORCE <br />INVESTMENT BOARD MEMBERS <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO.5,11 <br />CITY MANAG <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2 "d Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Reappoint Ignacio Alegre, Brent Beasley, Patrick Korthuis, Lee McMurtray, Robert Ruiz, Robert <br />Tucker, and Caleb Everett to the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board for a four -year term. <br />WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD RECOMMENDATION <br />At its regular meeting on January 15, 2015, by a vote of 14:0 (Davila, De la Riva, De Leon, <br />Edmonds, Elliott, Everett, Fischer, Jimenez -Ham!, Knitter, Lewis, McMurtray, Piwnica, Ruiz, <br />Sanchez), the Workforce Investment Board recommended that the City Council reappoint Ignacio <br />Alegre, Brent Beasley, Patrick Korthuis, Lee McMurtray, Robert Ruiz, Robert Tucker, and Caleb <br />Everett to the Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board for a four -year term. <br />DISCUSSION <br />In compliance with legislation outlined in the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, a Workforce <br />Investment Board (WIB) was created and its members appointed by City Council. The WIB, in <br />partnership with City Council, provides policy guidance for and exercises oversight with respect <br />to activities contained in the Workforce Investment Plan, directs activities to actively solicit public <br />and private support for and participation in Workforce Investment Area programs and provide <br />oversight of the activities to ensure efficient and effective operation. <br />The WIB members are appointed by City Council with members representing various categories <br />as required by law with a majority of the board members representing the private sector. <br />Presently, there are seven board members whose terms expire March 2015 and are being <br />recommended for reappointment for a four -year term.
