ABSENT: None (0) <br />*Motion failed 2-5. <br />City Manager Cavazos, noted that Police Chief supports POST <br />certification for armed officers; concerned that CalPERS may not respond; <br />seek Council direction to have date certain and return to the City Council <br />with options. <br />Police Chief Rojas, noted that Ranger's POST certificates have lapsed <br />and will need to re -certify before program transferred to the Police <br />Department; recommends that during recruitment period, the Police <br />Department provide surveillance and monitor parks. <br />Councilmember Martinez, concerned that City hired Rangers without <br />POST certification. Proposed friendly amendment to motion. <br />FRIENDLY AMENDMENT TO MOTION: Pending response from <br />CalPERS, Rangers to remain through 60-day transition period; <br />Program to remain at the Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Department and thereafter transfer Program to the Police <br />Department. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento, concerned with armed employees without <br />POST certification; interim solution is to have program managed by the <br />Police Department. <br />Councilmember Amezcua, asked how long it would take to receive POST <br />certify and recruitment.
