Clear space is a floor area <br />that is 30" x 48" or, under given conditions is 36" x 48" or 30" x 60 ", in size. It is the space that allows <br />forward or parallel ( "side ") approach to a given accessible element of the facility (e.g. a lavatory or <br />water closet, drinking fountain, TTY telephone, sales counter, interpretive display or the like). Additional <br />clear space requirements apply at each side of the door (i.e. the "pull" or "push" sides). They must be <br />connected to an accessible ROT and they often allow encroachment under counters, sinks or other <br />spaces for knee and toe space. Clear spaces are, again, subject to surface condition requirements <br />and they must be level (1:48 maximum slope in any direction.
