PROJECT DESCRIP"11ON <br />The proposed project entails the widening and reconstruction of a 3.9 -mile segment of <br />Bristol Street, located in the City of Santa Ana, County of Orange, State of California <br />(see Figure 1). The project limits are Warner Avenue on the south and Memory Lane <br />on the north (see Figure 2). The street widening project objective is to provide six lanes <br />of through traffic in accordance with adopted County of Orange and City of Santa Ana <br />standards for a Major Arterial Highway. Additionally, the City of Santa Ana has <br />adopted a Redevelopment Plan for the Bristol Corridor. The goals and objectives of the <br />Redevelopment Plan include: <br />The reduction and prevention of blight. <br />The expansion of the community's supply of housing (inside or outside the Project Area, _ <br />including opportunities for low and moderate income households). <br />The protection of the housing stock and neighborhood integrity from adverse _ <br />consequences associated with new development or redevelopment. <br />The widening and improvement of Bristol Street in accordance with the Orange County <br />Master Plan of Arterial Highways and the City's Circulation Element <br />The retention and expansion of as many existing businesses as possible. <br />The creation and development of local job opportunities and the preservation of the <br />area's existing employment base. <br />The preferred street widening alternative includes right -of -way acquisition from both <br />sides of Bristol Street, which is responsive to the City's transportation needs as well as <br />furthering the efforts of the City's adopted Redevelopment Plan. The description of the <br />preferred alternative is as follows: _ <br />Santiago Creek to 17th Street - The centerline is shifted west to avoid the Bristol <br />Reservoir and Santiago School. Property will be acquired from both sides. <br />17th to Washington Streets - The centerline is shifted east to avoid Rancho Santiago <br />College. Property will be acquired from the east side. <br />Washington to Edinger Avenues - Widening is from the centerline, with acquisition from <br />both sides. <br />Edinger Avenue to Glenwood Place - The centerline is shifted west to avoid Mater Dei <br />Higb School with acquisition from both sides. <br />-ii- <br />75B -13 <br />
