Provide sufficient roadway capacity to accommodate current and future <br />traffic demand. <br />2. Improve the performance and safety of the roadway for the benefit of the <br />motoring public. <br />3. To reduce current and projected future delays experienced at major <br />intersections and to design intersections to function at acceptable Levels <br />of Service (LOS). <br />4. To design the roadway in manner conducive to the provision of public <br />transportation, namely bus service provided by the Orange County Transit <br />District (OCTD). <br />Roadway improvements are needed within the Bristol Street Corridor to alleviate <br />existing peak hour congestion problems and to prevent increased congestion in <br />the future as traffic volumes increase. <br />The area adjoining Bristol Street varies in existing land use with a mixture of <br />both commercial and residential developments. Existing development also <br />includes an elementary school on the east side of Bristol Street south of Santa <br />Clara Avenue, a private high school, Mater Dei, on the east side south of Edinger <br />Avenue, and Rancho Santiago Community College at 17th Street. <br />Bristol Street is designated as a major arterial highway through the City of Santa <br />Ana. The curb -to -curb width of this roadway varies from 56 feet to 84 feet. <br />Bristol Street has a posted speed limit of 40 mph from Memory Lane to 17th <br />Street, a 35 mph speed limit from 17th Street to Edinger Avenue and a 40 mph <br />limit from Edinger to Warner Avenue. The Average Daily Traffic (ADT) on <br />Bristol Street varies from 48,600 vehicles /day south of Memory Lade to 31,900 <br />vehicles /day south of McFadden Avenue. Bristol Street is designated as a truck <br />route through the City of Santa Ana. <br />North of Memory Lane, Bristol Street has six lanes.
