Sites 1 through 12 lie adjacent to Bristol Street, whereas <br />site 13 is one lot removed and therefore a second line receptor. <br />All measurements were located with respect to the existing right - <br />of -way. <br />Single family residences at sites 1, 5, and 6 have front yards <br />facing with direct driveway access onto Bristol Street. Both <br />multifamily residential sites (3 &7) and single family sites B, <br />9, 12, & 13 take access from side streets and have front yards <br />facing away from Bristol Street. <br />Traffic on Bristol Street was free flowing during all measure- <br />ments with the exception of sites adjacent to major intersections <br />where vehicle delay was significant. Measurement 7 is considera- <br />bly affected by this situation due to its proximity to the inter- <br />section and location adjacent to the southbound approach lane. <br />Also note that noise levels midblock are significantly greater <br />than levels closer to the intersections since higher travel <br />speeds are prevalent and noise generated from vehicles is highly <br />speed dependent. <br />Figure 3 depicts the existing land uses adjacent to Bristol <br />Street. Table 4 -4 provides the ambient noise measurements at <br />each site in decibels on the A- weighted scale, using the Leq <br />noise descriptor. It also includes comments on the type of <br />adjacent land use. <br />j Ten minute noise level recordings were used to represent the <br />maximum noise level for a typical weekday evening peak hour <br />period. Traffic counts were made during the noise measurements <br />and the maximum Leq values shown in Table 4 -4 include adjustments <br />to reflect the peak hour traffic conditions. <br />Measurement site 1 was located in the front yard of a single <br />family residence. This residence lies midblock on Bristol <br />Street, 200 feet north of Santa Clara Avenue and is affected by <br />changes in noise level due to the signal at this intersection. <br />The measurement was taken 15 feet from the Bristol Street right - <br />of -way and 5 feet from the front entryway of the house. This <br />residence is representative of 10 other houses in the vicinity. <br />Measurement site 2 was located in the playground area of the <br />Santiago Elementary School. The playground lies adjacent to <br />Bristol Street and has full street exposure. There is an exis- <br />ting chain link fence separating the school grounds from the <br />roadway. This fence provides no noise attenuation and is broken <br />at two ends of the property for pedestrian access. The closest <br />classroom to Bristol Street lies 275 feet from the Bristol Street <br />right -of -way. <br />Measurement site 3 was selected at a multifamily detached dwel- <br />ling complex in a common recreational area. The site was adja- <br />cent to a gazebo in an outdoor activity area, between two of the <br />75C =466 <br />
