I
Shamrock
Companies
3/30/2015
Mayor Miguel A, Pulido
Santa Ana City Council
20 Civic Center Plaza
P.O. Box 1988, M31
Santa Ana, CA 92701
Dear Mr. Mayor:
SHAMROCK jj SUPPLY CO. SINGLE A5POINT
HARDWARdE1t[ TOOLS • SAFETY A < < i A x c ,
40 APP -7 PM 2: 21
CITY 0i SAS NTA .4 ,j+'
As a donor and active participant in the Achievement Institute for Scientific Studies, I am writing you to ask that the
Santa Ana City Council reconsider the Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission funding decisions for
the 2015-16 Community Development Block Grant public service programs. Currently, the Committee's decision
has left AISS unfunded, I believe the City Council should over -ride this decision for the following reasons:
One: AISS has many supporters such as:
Dr. Al Mijares, Orange County Superintendent of Schools,
Dr. Thelma Mel6ndez de Santa Ana, former OC Superintendent, now LA Unified Administrator,
Zeke Hernandez, Santa Ana LULAC President,
• Dr. Ron Raya, former Bonita Unified School Superintendent,
Alex Ayala, former Santa Ana Unified Superintendent.
All these supporters know that AISS helps Latino students entirely within Santa Ana to attend college and pursue
STEM (Science, Technology, Education, Mathematics) careers.
Two: AISS helps primarily the poorest and brightest Latino immigrants or the children of immigrants, with ninety-
seven scholars receiving 603 acceptance letters from colleges and universities, with ninety-four attended, including
Harvard, Yale, and Stanford among others, No other program can claim this record,
Three: AISS is entirely local, without any professional fundraisers or national parent program, Without adequate
funding AISS could close its doors forever leaving the Class of 2015-17 without the help they need.
If you have any questions about AISS, please call Paul Riordan, AISS President at (714) 544-1316, or visit the AISS
Website at: aissfoundation,com.
Respectfully,
John J. O'Connor
CEO Shamrock Corporation
