CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Reported that Governor Brown announced water rationing; consumption in <br />Santa Ana below average; staff to assess drought resistant landscape, <br />promote turf replacement program and water conservation programs; <br />encouraged residents to continue to conserve. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• As member of the Orange County Sanitation District reported that water <br />usage will change; urged all to conserve water. <br />*Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento left the meeting at 9:43 p.m. and Councilmember Tinajero left at <br />9:46 p.m. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Look forward to continued discussion on Wellness Corridor. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Encouraged all to be water wise; <br />• Request staff review water consumption of eucalyptus trees that is reported <br />to be 30 gallons per day; staff to consider all options; and <br />• Asked all to shop in Santa Ana! <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Thanked speakers and staff for efforts; <br />• Support local businesses. <br />Mayor Pulido: <br />• Urged all to conserve water and consider alternatives such as eating less <br />beef — cattle requires over 4,000 gallons of water a year to produce 2 pounds <br />of meat; <br />• Micro climates need to be considered in water retention and use of aquifer - <br />staff to develop ordinance supporting efforts; also Orange County Water <br />District considering desalination system; and <br />• Adjourned meeting in memory of Ben Grabiel and Antonio Contreras. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 26 APRIL 7, 2015 <br />
