NO. 15-030) <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, 1, C} <br />ITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />171, , <br />I <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1a' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2 "° Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />Award a contract to BPR, Inc„ subject to nonsubstantive changes approved by the City Manager <br />and City Attorney, for annual sidewalk maintenance for a one -year period expiring April 30, 2016, <br />with provision for three one -year renewals exercisable by the City Manager and City Attorney, in <br />an amount not to exceed $170,000 each year. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Agency Maintenance Services Division is responsible for maintaining the <br />sidewalks of Santa Ana. Staff evaluates the condition of the sidewalks and identifies uneven <br />surfaces and cracks that may pose a risk to pedestrians. Offset grinding is the preferred method to <br />repair uneven surfaces caused by underlying tree mats or soil depressions that raise or sink <br />sidewalk areas. Public Works repairs approximately 2,000 sidewalk hazards annually using offset <br />grinding. Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency also use this method to address <br />trip /step hazards within the parks, bike trail system, the Santa Ana Zoo, and the Civic Center area, <br />A notice Inviting bids was advertised on March 30, 2015, on the City's online bid management <br />and publication system, A summary of the bid invitations and bids received Is as follows: <br />12 Vendors notified <br />7 Vendors downloaded the bid documents <br />3 Bids received <br />Bids were received and opened on April 15, 2015, and evaluated (Exhibit 1). The bid received <br />from BPR, Inc., Is responsive to the specification and meets the City's requirements. <br />22D -1 <br />
