Organizational and Credentials <br />OCCLI -Med'S founder (now President and C E'0 of' the coin pan)) directed it project (which evuntuall) <br />ec)ended more than `62 million in cash and in -kind contributions) funded b) the United Suites Civil <br />Service Commission in 1976 "to develop and implement nn improved system of physical and medical <br />standards and procedures for employment" The goals ol'this project were: a) to ensure workers were <br />able to safely perform the essential function of theirjobs, b) reduce the costs associated with worker <br />injuries, and c) protecting the rights of the disabled b) developing a medically appropriate and legally <br />deronsible methodology for determining what medical conditions, injuries or illnesses allowed for <br />reasonable accommodation. 'The Director ol'this project, Jim .Johnson, having spent his previous two <br />years at the Connt) Supervisors' Association of California ("CS AC-) as, among other assignments, staff <br />to the statewide association of District Personnel Administrators, obtained a secondary grant to expand <br />this project to include the entire state of California and to form an Advisory Group of representatives <br />from more than thirty Counties, several Citics and various state and federal agencies enforcing the newl} <br />enacted legislation protecting the employment rights of the handicapped. Based on the original research <br />conducted then, Oceu -Med's methodolog) for managing employment medical evaluations was born. <br />Occu -Med has gained a thorough understanding of employ ment laws and regulations over its 35 years of <br />providing these services, and we know the importance of having a complete Understanding of the physical <br />1 and environmental factors that the employee will face in the workplace before a placement <br />recommendation is made.
