• Thanked members of the community that will be attending Metropolitan <br />Water District inspection tour on May 16th <br />• Wished all a Happy Mother's Day. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Commented on recent Joint meeting with Santa Ana Unified School <br />District officials where they discussed at length joint use programs and <br />funding; and <br />• Asked City Manager to report back on how the State of Arizona, a <br />desert, goes about water conservation efforts and address park <br />maintenance issues while implementing drought tolerant practices. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento: <br />• City Council Legislative Committee will be meeting to discuss <br />Legislative Platform; <br />• Attended Government Affairs Policy Committee roundtable meeting <br />with Southern California Edison; discussed many issues including <br />rates remaining flat in coming years; forecast includes competition with <br />solar and advance technology — will need to remain competitive; <br />• Cinco de Mayo being celebrated today; thanked staff for successful <br />celebration over the weekend; <br />• Economic Development Plan should include input from downtown <br />businesses; and <br />• Thanked and wished all a Happy Mother's Day. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Reported that AB1217 (Orange County Fire Authority restructure) only <br />supported by cities of Anaheim and Santa Ana; and <br />• Wished all a Happy National Teacher Day and Mother's Day. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Urged all to be water wise; <br />• Acknowledged all mothers as we celebrate Mother's Day; <br />• August 29th will be 5k event in Downtown Santa Ana; and <br />• City Council will not hold City Council retreat; important to set priorities <br />and suggest no additional funding requests be approved until <br />discussion had. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Thanked all members of the community that participated in the <br />success of the Cinco de Mayo festivities and staff for coordinating the <br />event; <br />• Recognized mother and this coming Mother's Day weekend; publically <br />acknowledged Mardy Ousley as she retires from the City; <br />• Regret that City Council will not be holding retreat but hope to <br />reschedule soon; need to develop policy to deal with project/funding <br />requests; <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 22 MAY 5, 2015 <br />
