REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 2, 2015 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT AMENDMENT WITH NORA <br />SANCHEZ FOR RECREATIONAL CLASS <br />INSTRUCTION (STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, <br />6C) <br />CITY MANAG <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an amendment to the agreement <br />with Nora Sanchez for recreational class instruction, increasing the compensation from $25,000 <br />to $35,000 annually, for the two -year term, which ends on December 31, 2016, subject to non - <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency (PRCSA) Recreational Class Program <br />offers low -cost courses and activities to Santa Ana residents in the areas of Music and Dance, <br />Arts, Nature and Science, Equestrian, Aquatics, Sports, and other special interests. The quarterly <br />recreational class brochure has been instrumental in increasing the number of students <br />registering for many classes. The Recreational Class Program is a revenue - generating program <br />that uses registration fees to pay for instructors and supplies. <br />Nora Sanchez has been providing Tiny Tots classes for the city's Recreational Class Program. <br />The number of class registrations has increased this fiscal year. Due to the popularity of the <br />class, city staff is anticipating the instructor's percentage of the total revenue to exceed of <br />$25,000 per fiscal year. Therefore the City is requesting increasing the compensation to <br />$35,000, annually, for the term of the agreement. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #5 Community Health, Livability, Engagement & <br />Sustainability, Objective #6 (Focus projects and programs on improving the health and wellness of <br />all residents), Strategy C (Integrate a variety of health and wellness programs into existing <br />programming at each of the city's community /recreation centers). <br />25A -1 <br />
