CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br />It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Ordinance which <br />authorizes an amendment to the City's contract with the Public Employee's Retirement <br />System (PERS) to provide Section 21252.01 benefit option (2% at Age 50 Full Formula) <br />for all local police safety members, effective January 1, 1990. <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />In awith ccordance <br />AnavandnthefPolicecurrent <br />Benevolentranum of Associationd(PBA)ndexebetwen <br />cu ed eon <br />February 16, 1989, the City agreed to amend its contract with PERS to provide, <br />effective January 1, 1990, the "2% at age 50 Full Formula" benefit option for all <br />police safety members employed since October 1, 1981. Police personnel hired prior <br />to that date already have that benefit option. The amendment will standardize the <br />benefit for all sworn Police personnel. <br />On November 20, 1989, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 89-119 declaring its <br />intention to approve such amendment to the City's contract with PERS in accordance <br />with State Law. The PERS contract amendment process also requires that the City's <br />final action authorizing the actual amendment to the contract be made in the form <br />of an Ordinance. <br />200 <br />
