City of Santa Ana CDBG Scope of Work <br />Program Year 2015 -16 (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016) <br />Name of Organization KidWorks Community Development Corporation (KWS) <br />Name of Funded Program Cedar Evergreen (CE) Community Center <br />Annual Accomplishment Goal <br />Unduplicated Participants anticipated to be served during the 12 -month contract eriod. <br />150 TOTAL 150 Santa Ana Participants 100% 150 Low Income Participants 100% <br />ana <br />The Cedar Evergreen Community Center will serve 150 children, youth, and parents through the KidWorks "University <br />Starts Now" after- school program. Additionally, there will be a broader impact in the community as KidWorks involves <br />these and other neighborhood residents in various community engagement events aimed at improving the overall quality of <br />life in the Cedar Evergreen neighborhood. <br />a. Description of services <br />1) Children and youth will develop their academic skills through homework help, tutoring, and STEAM (Science, <br />Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) lessons. <br />2) Children and youth with their parents will improve their knowledge and awareness of post - secondary education, <br />through age- appropriate lessons, college campus tours, college and financial aid application assistance, college fairs, <br />and career exploration workshops. <br />3) Children and youth will grow socially and emotionally through character - building lessons, mentoring relationships, <br />community service projects, and leadership development training. <br />4) Youth and parents will be engaged in community revitalization efforts and community building events. <br />CDBG funding will support the expansion of the Cedar Evergreen community center to serve 150 children, youth, and <br />parents. Our overall program outcomes are that: <br />1) 80% of children testing below proficient in math and reading will improve their scores. <br />2) Youth and parents will organize at least 2 community- building events (forums, resource fairs, and /or beautification <br />events) to increase resident engagement. <br />b. Frequency of service delivery <br />University Starts Now after- school program: Regular programs will run from 3pm to 7pm, Monday through Thursday. <br />Additional activities will be offered on Fridays periodically. Enrolled child participants will receive academic support <br />and enrichment during 1.5 hour tutoring sessions Monday- Thursday. All activities are offered for 36 weeks (September - <br />June). Parent meetings will take place on a bimonthly basis. <br />Community events: At least 2 one day events will take place (forum, fair, beautification day) in Quarters 2 -4. <br />c. How the service is provided <br />University Starts Now program activities are provided in classroom settings and small groups. Community events will <br />take place with large groups. A community forum will take place in a courtyard, nearby school, or church. A resource <br />fair will take place in a similar setting as the community forum. A beautification day will occur out in the neighborhood <br />on Cedar and Evergreen streets. <br />d. Target population <br />The Cedar - Evergreen neighborhood has been designated by the Santa Ana Police Department as a criminal "hot spot" <br />The youth here lack positive outlets and are often recruited into gangs at a young age. Economically, the areas are <br />among the poorest in Orange County.
