REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTIONUSM-N <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />OCTOBER 6, 2015 <br />TITLE: APPROVED <br />AUTHORIZE PAYMENT TO SOUTHERN <br />CALIFORNIA EDISON FOR STREET LIGHT <br />IMPROVEMENT IN THE TOWNSEND RAITT <br />NEIGHBORHOOD <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, 44D) <br />CITY MANAGgfS/ <br />o <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2"' Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Nearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />! <br />Authorize a one -time payment to Southern California Edison In the amount of $39,294.56 for <br />street lighting Improvements In the Townsend Raitt neighborhood on Townsend Street and <br />alleyways east and west of Townsend Street, from Monte Vista Avenue to McFadden Avenue. <br />r • <br />On March 3, 2015, City Council approved the submittal of an Annual Action Plan Substantial <br />Amendment to the U.S, Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Plan's Substantial <br />Amendment authorized the use of $66,771 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) <br />funds for neighborhood sponsored capital improvement projects to undertake neighborhood <br />driven capital improvements for revitalization of deteriorated or deteriorating CDBG eligible areas. <br />Staff recommends utilizing $39,294.56 of the approved CDBG funds for street lighting <br />improvements in the Townsend Raitt neighborhood initiative area to increase the visibility and <br />safety of the local residents. Approval of this recommended action will authorize payment to <br />Southern California Edison for the improvement of 24 street lights by increasing the wattage and <br />placing vandal guards on the light fixtures to ensure durability on Townsend Street and alleyways <br />east and west of Townsend Street, from Monte Vista Avenue to McFadden Avenue (Exhibit 1 and <br />2). <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMOT <br />Approval of this Item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #6, Community health, livability, <br />engagement and sustainabllity, Objective #4 (Support neighborhood vitality and livability), <br />Strategy D (Implement new Neighborhood Improvement Initiatives focusing on residential areas <br />that have been adversely affected by disinvestment and decline. Program and services from a <br />variety of resources will be utilized to achieve positive and sustainable Improvements). <br />29A -1 <br />
